Lady Gaga surprised fans in Paris with an impromptu performance of new music on the streets, giving a sneak peek of her upcoming seventh album. The pop icon, currently in France for the 2024 Olympics, had previously captivated audiences with her cabaret performance of Mon Truc en Plumes during Friday’s opening ceremony.
Following her attendance at swimming and women’s gymnastics events—and confirming her engagement to entrepreneur Michael Polansky—Gaga took to social media to express her gratitude. "I'm so deeply touched by French fans this week outside the hotel, I'm gonna come out and say goodbye tonight—with a few seconds of #LG7," she announced on Instagram.
True to her word, Gaga emerged outside her Paris hotel on Sunday evening. She delighted fans with a brief teaser of her new music, played from a laptop inside her limousine. The first snippet, featuring a metallic electronic beat, lasted about 20 seconds, with Gaga enthusiastically pumping her fist in the air from the sunroof. She then playfully closed her laptop and retreated back into the car, leaving fans chanting and cheering.
Moments later, Gaga reappeared to play a second clip with a gothic pop sound reminiscent of her Artpop era. The singer mouthed a lyric that appeared to be, “I’ve become what was holding me.” After posing for photos, she promised more to come with a cryptic message: "And for the rest, you have to wait!"
This appearance follows Gaga's standout performance at the Olympics opening ceremony, where she performed Mon Truc en Plumes amidst a grandiose display of pink pom poms and a golden staircase. The segment was pre-taped due to heavy rain that made the stage slippery, but that did not stop a dancer from almost falling into the Seine during the live show.
Gaga's forthcoming album will be her first solo release since 2020’s Chromatica, which featured hits like Stupid Love and Rain On Me. She also collaborated with Tony Bennett on the duets album Love For Sale, which won Best Traditional Pop Album at the 2023 Grammy Awards.
